The short answer
- Preserve the current tab, copy any visible text, then check session Undo, the original browser and a TXT backup.
- Undo only covers Clear script, Import text or Try a sample in the same page session. There is no server copy to restore.
If your browser teleprompter script is missing, keep the current tab and its browser data intact. Copy any words still visible into another document. Then check the page’s Undo message, the browser where you wrote the script and any exported TXT backup. Free Teleprompter Online has no server copy to restore.
Choose the check that matches what happened
A blank editor can mean a replaced script, a different browser store or missing saved data. Those need different checks. Do not clear site data or reinstall the browser while looking for the only remaining copy.
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| A Clear, import or sample message with Undo | Use that Undo before replacing the script again or reloading. |
| Words still visible in an editor or reader | Copy them into a separate document before leaving the tab. |
| An empty editor on another device or browser | Return to the device, browser and profile used for the original. |
| No visible words or available Undo | Check an exported TXT file or the document you originally copied. |
Use the page’s Undo for a replaced script
After Clear script, Import text or Try a sample, the editor offers Undo for the script that action replaced. If you just cleared the editor and the message is still there, choose Undo and check the restored words.
This is one previous state held during the current page session. Reloading loses that Undo state, and another replacement can overwrite it. It is not a version history or an Undo button for every typing edit. If it brings the script back, export a TXT copy before experimenting further.
Return to the browser that held the script
Free saves in browser storage when it is available. It does not put scripts in an account library or sync them between browsers and devices. A script written in your usual desktop browser will not appear automatically in a different browser or on your phone.
Open https://freeteleprompteronline.com/ in the browser profile you used originally. Check any still-open original tab first. If the editor or paused reader still shows the words, copy them elsewhere before closing, reloading or using Back to script. The local-saving explanation describes what the site keeps on your device.
Browser localStorage is tied to a site’s origin. Private-browsing storage is normally cleared when the last private tab closes. A missing local copy does not establish which event removed it; changing browsers or deleting data is not a recovery method.
Find a separate copy and verify the TXT file
Look for a file you previously saved with Export .txt, including your browser’s download history or the download folder you chose. Also check the original document, email draft or notes you pasted from. The teleprompter does not create an automatic file on a USB drive or in cloud storage.
Open a candidate TXT file in a text editor before importing it. Check the first line, the ending and a distinctive phrase from the middle. If the Free editor currently contains different words you want, copy or export those first. Import replaces the current script.
In the Free editor, choose Import text and select your backup. The importer accepts UTF-8 TXT or Markdown files up to 1 MiB. Renaming a PDF or Word document to .txt does not convert its contents. Check the imported text before starting the reader.
A repeatable backup check
For the next important script, choose Export .txt, open the downloaded file separately and check its beginning and ending. Keep that file somewhere appropriate for its contents. A fresh export after meaningful edits gives you a copy outside this site’s browser storage.
We checked this sequence on 21 October 2026 using synthetic text in a local copy of the current Free reader. A reload retained the text; Clear script followed by Undo restored it; and exporting then re-importing the TXT file preserved the text and blank line exactly. This checks those controls, not recovery of deleted browser data or behavior in every browser.
Recognize when the available copies have run out
If the browser save was deleted and no open tab, Undo state, original document or exported file survives, Free has no server backup from which to rebuild the words. Avoid tools that promise an account recovery feature this reader does not have.
If the reader reports that saved data could not be opened, it attempts to retain the original data in browser storage for recovery. There is no one-click restore for that unreadable copy. Keep the browser data intact and look for a readable separate copy. If you see Not saved. Export a backup., protect any visible text immediately rather than assuming a refresh will preserve it.
A TXT export contains script text, not reader settings, your scroll position or a recorded video. If you are preparing to film again, download the camera recording separately after the take.
Open the free teleprompter to import your TXT backup once you have checked the file and protected any current words you need.
